Green CBCT Scan
Dental CT Scan
Dental work, particularly any kind of oral surgery or dental restoration, depends on accurate images of your mouth’s interior, teeth, and surrounding structures. In the past, x-rays were the most valuable images available, but they were limited and provided only a 2-dimensional representation of the bones and teeth. CBCT scan technology changed all that by creating an easy, painless way to capture 3-dimensional images of the oral cavity.
What is a CBCT?
CBCT, or Cone Beam Computed Tomography, is an innovation in imaging technology that has dramatically improved the precision and accuracy of oral surgery and dental procedures. 3D CBCT imaging captures not only bone and teeth images (like x-rays) but also soft tissues and nerve pathways. This improved clarity results in safer, more accurate, and more attractive results. At Smile Design Studio, we use the highly-rated VATECH Green CT scanner, which uses ultra-low-dose technology to provide high-resolution imaging with dramatically less radiation than traditional x-rays.
Why Use CT Scans for Dental Work?
Dental implants rely on accurate imaging to gauge where and how to place the implants on the jawbone. The CBCT images provide a detailed picture of your remaining teeth, jawbone, gums, and nerves. A single scan captures up to 200 images in less than 60 seconds to create a 3-dimensional image that can be used to determine whether you are a candidate for dental implants. Your surgeon also uses these images to create a treatment plan that minimizes or avoids complications and addresses potential problems before surgery is begun.
We may recommend a CT scan to diagnose and plan treatment of other dental issues such as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), cavities, endodontic disease, jaw misalignment, dental trauma, or crooked teeth.
The images captured by our Green CBCT scan are sent to our computers immediately, where the 3-dimensional image is created. The lag time between the scan and creation of the image is less than 10 minutes. These images allow us to show you any potential problems and explain needed procedures in detail. For many of our patients, a picture is truly worth a thousand words.
Safety, accuracy, and patient involvement are all improved by using CBCT scanning technology. We are thrilled we are able to improve our patient engagement and outcomes using this high-tech innovation.
What are the Applications of Green CT Scans in Dental Offices?
CBCT scans are used for diagnosis of and treatment planning for many oral surgery and dental procedures, including:
- Dental implant surgery mapping and placement
- Safe and gentle tooth extraction and root canals
- Identifying infections and other soft tissue issues
- Planning bone grafts
- Evaluating the nasal and sinus cavities
- Identifying nerve pathways before surgery or dental work
- TMJ Disorder diagnosis
